Roof Replacement and Pool Refurbishment Funding

€700,000+ in confirmed financial support allows works to begin immediately.

We are delighted to share significant and very welcome progress on the repair and refurbishment of the PSLC swimming pool.

With outstanding support from national and local government representatives, local community members, and club visitors. A combined funding package of over €700,000 is secured. This includes:

  • €500,000 from Fingal County Council

  • over €200,000 in grants previously received that will be repurposed for the roof project

This is in addition to funds being committed directly by the PSLC and ongoing fundraiser activity.

This represents approximately 60% of the total costs of works and this level of early support is exceptional, allowing us to move forward immediately.

Works to Begin Immediately

With funding now in place, we can appoint a contractor to begin the required works without delay.

These works will include:

  • Full repair of the pool roof

  • Upgrades to the filtration system

  • Additional planned upgrades to refurbish the pool area, which were scoped prior to the discovery of the roof issue.

This means we are not only restoring the facility but improving it for the long term.

Target Reopening: September 2026

Based on current timelines, we are working towards reopening the pool in September.

While this is not guaranteed at this stage, we are working tirelessly to deliver the essential repairs and upgrades ready to welcome swimmers back for the new term.

We look forward to seeing our regular swimmers, swim academy participants, club users, social swimmers, and new members of the community to what will be a significantly enhanced pool in the heart of Portmarnock.

We are excited to welcome back our pool team including our lifeguards, teachers and support staff who make up 50% of the PSLC workforce and all of whom have been directly impacted by the closure.

Unprecedented Support

This has been a substantial and complex effort, and the level of support received has been remarkable.

We have been genuinely encouraged by the immediate and positive engagement from central and local government representatives, community leaders, volunteers and of course all our members and visitors.

Our personal thanks and immense gratitude, from the PSLC leadership and full team go to:

Central government representatives Darragh O’Brien TD, Duncan Smith TD and Ann Graves TD. Councillors Brian McDonagh, Cathal Haughey, Joan Hopkins and Eoghan O’Brien. Fingal Executive Management Team Representatives AnnMarie Farrelly, David Storey and John Quinlivan plus all those involved in Central Government and Fingal County Council for supporting this urgent need.

PSLC Operations Continue as Normal

While work progresses on the pool, the rest of the PSLC remains fully open and operating as normal. Members and visitors can continue to enjoy the gym and fitness facilities, studio and classes, sports hall and squash courts Tennis and other outdoor facilities. Our social spaces including Après Coffee and Southern Cross Bar remain open to all with food options from Puck.

While we have been working hard to kick-off the pool works, we have not stopped delivering more facility upgrades and exciting sporting opportunities. Padel @ The PSLC has recently expanded to five courts and we are already seeing great demand.

We want to reassure all members that the pool works will not impact the day-to-day operation of the wider facility. There may be occasional use of parking areas to support construction activity, but this will be managed carefully to minimise disruption.

Funding Gap and Next Steps

While this funding represents a major milestone, the overall cost will require additional funds. We will be progressing this through a number of channels, including continued engagement with funding bodies, community support initiatives, future sponsorship opportunities.

The PSLC Board welcomes support from local businesses and individuals to help fund this project. We are open to collaborating with anyone interested in contributing to this long-established local facility. Please reach out to the board via info@pslc.ie

The PSLC team has also been planning to launch new sponsorship opportunities for our various facilities. This represents a strong opportunity for local and national businesses to connect with a large, active, and engaged audience. Further details on sponsorship packages will be shared soon.

Thank You Again

On behalf of everyone at the PSLC, I would like to thank our central and local government representatives for their efforts in securing funding. From petitions that gathered thousands of signatures to countless meetings, site visits, social media updates and media engagement, the support we have received has been extraordinary.

Further thanks to our members, visitors and the wider community for your continued patience and support. We know how important the pool is to so many people, and we are committed to delivering a facility that exceeds expectations.

I look forward to sharing further updates as works progress.
