The pool roof repair and refurbishment works are now underway

Whilst the temporary pool closure has been disappointing, I would like to thank everyone for their continued support. The PSLC remains a busy and vibrant part of our community thanks to all of you.
For more than 45 years, the PSLC has been at the heart of life in Portmarnock and the wider North Dublin area. Generations have learned to swim here, played sport here, built friendships and enjoyed the many activities the club provides. More than 2,000 people use the pool every week, with many thousands more using the wider facilities throughout the year.
The pool roof repair and refurbishment works are now underway: The contractors have been engaged and have completed the detailed design stage, the tender process is almost complete , the construction stage is expected to begin at the start of July and expected be completed in September. We have been fortunate to secure over €800,000 in funding support through Fingal County Council, local representatives, national government support and repurposed grants. While this is a fantastic start and allows the project to move forward, a funding shortfall of more than €600,000 remains.
Over the coming weeks we will launch a number of fundraising initiatives to help close that gap and reduce the level of borrowing required to complete the project and reopen the pool. I hope that everyone who has benefited from the PSLC over the years will consider supporting these efforts in whatever way they can. Whether through participation, volunteering or supporting fundraising activities, every contribution will help secure the future of this important community facility for decades to come.
We must also acknowledge that larger personal and corporate contributions have the potential to make a significant impact on the delivery of the project. This is not a conversation we undertake lightly. It is, however, one we must have if we are to secure the long-term future of our club. If you, your family, your business or your organisation may be in a position to support the required works through a significant personal or corporate contribution, including options for sponsorship opportunities within the PSLC, I would very much welcome the opportunity to meet and discuss this with you in confidence.
Finally, capitation and basic membership fees are due on 1st July. As a reminder, members paying by card will be charged automatically through their Gladstone account, while others can pay at reception. The basic membership fee will increase by €20 per year to €170, and the senior membership fee will increase by €10 per year to €85. These increases were agreed at the recent AGM and are a result of rising energy, wage and operating costs across the club. We would appreciate prompt payment to ensure you continue to have all your membership benefits.
I look forward to seeing many of you enjoying the facilities and activities at the PSLC throughout the summer months.
Thank you once again for your continued support.
Kind regards,
Brian Staunton
