Starting padel for the first time is easy. Grab some friends, book your court and enjoy the fun of the game. Below are some recommendations and links to padel rules and more that will help you enjoy every experience.
While many of the rules of padel are similar to tennis, there are some things you need to know. Padel Ireland has published a handy guide.
Footwear is an important consideration for the padel court. There are many types, and while clay court tennis shoes tend to work well for most players, you may find different footwear suits you better. Decathlon offers a great guide to the different options. Click here to go to the Decathlon guide.
General sports clothing is best for padel. It’s a dynamic game, so pick the right clothes for the weather and you’re good to go.
Your racket depends on your style, preferences and budget. Shop around, hire a racket at the PSLC reception to get started and, most importantly, always use the wrist strap.
Goggles are an increasingly popular option among padel players and are often recommended by padel federations. They offer protection, and some provide shading for sunny days.
Are tennis balls and padel balls the same? No, not quite. There are many similarities, but it is important to use padel balls because of their slightly reduced size and pressure, resulting in a lower bounce. This encourages greater control and longer competitive rallies.
If you don’t have everything you need to get started, check in at the PSLC reception, where balls, rackets, goggles, water and court keys can all be purchased, hired or borrowed.
Padel @ The PSLC is home to Portmarnock Padel Club, an independent sports club that, like many local clubs, utilises our facility for its members’ needs. From social events and competitions to league activity and helping members find a padel partner, Portmarnock Padel Club is a great way to expand your play.
