PSLC Fundraiser

help us replace the pslc pool roof and restore our facility for future generations

The Story

For nearly 45 years Portmarnock Sports & Leisure Club has been at the heart of our community. It has welcomed generations for sport, social and leisure activities and supported local clubs, taught children vital life skills, provided a place for fitness and rehabilitation, and created countless memories for families across Portmarnock and beyond.

In March 2026, during routine maintenance inspections carried out by the PSLC team on a central feature of our club, the pool, concerns were identified regarding the condition of the roof. A specialist engineering firm was engaged to conduct a full assessment. What was initially expected to require repairs quickly became a far more substantial issue.

Following detailed inspections, structural concerns were discovered within the roof supports. The specialist engineers advised that, out of an abundance of caution, the pool should close immediately while further investigations were undertaken.

Subsequent assessments confirmed that a full roof replacement was necessary.

This represented an enormous challenge for the PSLC. While plans were already in place for a wider programme of pool improvements, including retiling works and a general refurbishment of the pool environment, a complete roof replacement was never something that could reasonably have been anticipated. The estimated cost of the combined project was determined to be €1.1 million.

As a not-for-profit community organisation, the PSLC reinvests income directly into maintaining and improving facilities for members and visitors. We do not hold reserves on a scale that could absorb a project of this magnitude.

Faced with this challenge, the PSLC committee, board, leadership team and dedicated volunteers began an extensive campaign to secure funding and support. Working closely with local councillors, TDs, government representatives and community stakeholders, significant progress has already been achieved.

€800,000

of our €1.1M target raised so far

We are delighted to have secured €500,000 in funding from Fingal County Council, alongside a further €100,000 from central government. Combined with previously secured grants that have now been redirected towards the project, this has enabled us to raise approximately €800,000 towards our €1.1 million target.

While this support represents a major milestone, there is still considerable work to be done.

Today, we turn to the community we have been proud to serve for more than four decades. Through fundraising initiatives, sponsorship opportunities, community events and individual donations, we hope to bridge the remaining gap and ensure that this vital community asset can reopen stronger than ever.

The story of the Portmarnock pool has always been a story of community. Generations before us built it, supported it and benefited from it. With your help, we can preserve that legacy for future generations.

Together, we can protect 45 years of history and build for the next 45 and beyond.

with your help, we can secure your club's future

The pool is a huge part of the PSLC. It employs more than 50% of our staff and serves more than 2,000 people every week. It is central to life at the club and remains one of our most important and popular facilities.

Over the coming months, we will be running a number of fundraising initiatives to help secure the future of the pool and as a result, the wider club. We are asking for support in every form: donations, sponsorship, volunteering, fundraising events, club-led initiatives, individual challenges, ideas, introductions and simply helping us spread the word.

Even if you do not personally use the pool, its role within the PSLC matters to everyone who uses the club. Whether you come here for tennis, padel, squash, gym and fitness, dance, basketball, indoor sports, coffee, social events or community activities, the pool is part of what allows the PSLC to remain the broad, inclusive and active community facility it is today.

With your help, we can protect the pool, support the club and secure this important community facility for the next generation.
