Portmarnock Sports & Leisure Club first opened in 1981, created by the community of Portmarnock as a local sports, leisure and community facility. From the beginning, it was built around community use, local participation and broad access to sport and recreation.

The club is managed by a voluntary committee and operates under a 99-year lease issued by Fingal County Council. It has grown into one of the key community facilities in the area, supporting local employment and providing a wide range of activities for members, visitors, clubs, schools and community groups.

Today, the PSLC includes a 25-metre swimming pool, padel courts, sports hall, meeting rooms, fitness studio, tennis courts, astro-turf courts, bar and bistro, squash court, gym, sauna and steam rooms and more. The centre also hosts activities across sport, dance, drama, health and wellbeing, martial arts, performing arts, community events and resident association meetings.

A number of independent clubs have developed around the PSLC over the years, using the facilities as their home while operating separately from the club itself. Portmarnock Tennis Club was established in 1983 as a member club of the PSLC, bringing tennis to a growing Portmarnock and the surrounding Fingal area. The club now operates six floodlit all-weather courts and has become an important part of local sporting life.

Portmarnock Swim Team was one of the first clubs to set up within the centre shortly after it opened, around 1984. Over the decades, the swim team has grown from a small local club into one of the most successful swimming clubs in Ireland, with swimmers competing at regional, national and international level.

The PSLC pool has remained one of the most important elements of the club’s community role. It has supported public swimming, school programmes, club usage, recreational activities, rehabilitation services and learn-to-swim programmes. Fingal County Council has described the pool as a key public amenity that plays an important role in physical activity, public health and community wellbeing.

For more than four decades, Portmarnock Sports & Leisure Club has continued to evolve around the needs of the community. It is more than a building or a collection of facilities. It is a place where people learn, train, compete, recover, socialise and stay active across all stages of life.

The club’s history is closely tied to the people of Portmarnock: the volunteers who helped establish and sustain it, the staff who keep it running, the clubs that call it home, and the generations of members and visitors who have used its facilities since 1981.
