€28,000+ Raised from Lambay to Low Rock

Now, Calling All PSLC Clubs: Can You Help Us Bridge the Gap? By Aoife Gibbons

When our group set off from Lambay Island towards Low Rock in Malahide, we knew we were in for a serious test of physical and mental endurance.

9 km of open water is no small feat. The conditions threw everything at us, from choppy swells to bitingly cold pockets of water. It pushed our mental resolve and physical endurance to the absolute limit.

Every single stroke was driven by one goal: doing our absolute best for Portmarnock Sports and Leisure Centre and every single person who backed us.

We could not have done this alone. A massive, heartfelt thank you to:

  • Tony, Marita and Emer on the boat, for skilfully guiding our swimmers every single nautical mile from Lambay Island safely to the shores of Low Rock.
  • The Sub-Aqua team, who volunteered their valuable time to keep us safe and secure in the water throughout the entire 9 km crossing.
  • Coach Joe’s swimmers, for their incredible teamwork, dedication and grit throughout every metre of the 9 km crossing.
  • Selena, a coach from Portmarnock Tri Club, whose fantastic support and guidance kept the swimmers focused and moving forward.
  • The PSLC management and staff, for their constant encouragement, operational backing and belief in this fundraiser from day one.
  • Our incredible local community, whose generosity, messages and donations blew every expectation out of the water.
  • Thomas, for documenting the raw, live action out on the water as it happened.
  • Kevin, for keeping the updates rolling across our social channels so everyone back on dry land could follow along.

When we set out, we never dreamed we would raise an incredible €28,000+ for the PSLC roof and pool renovations. The buzz, goodwill and community spirit have been nothing short of inspiring.

Now, we need the rest of our PSLC family to keep this momentum going. This swim showed what’s possible when a team rallies together, but the job isn’t finished yet. We still need to bridge the remaining funding gap to secure our pool and facility renovations for future generations.
