Following our update of March 13 regarding the temporary closure of the swimming pool due to a maintenance concern with the roof, we can now provide a further update on the current situation.
Since that communication, the PSLC team has been working with contractors to progress detailed assessments and gather additional independent input to ensure a full understanding of the condition of the roof and the appropriate next steps.
An engineering firm was engaged to assess the status of the roof and, out of an abundance of caution, recommended that the pool and sauna remain closed while further checks are carried out. Additional assessments have since taken place, and we are also awaiting the availability of another firm to complete a review.
Based on the findings to date, it is now clear that more extensive works will be required. As a result, the pool will need to remain closed through the summer while the full scope of works is confirmed, funding is secured, and repairs are completed.
We would like to reassure members the wider PSLC facility remains unaffected, safe, and fully operational, with only the pool and sauna area impacted.
What Happens Next
The focus is on ensuring that the necessary works are completed to the very highest standard so that the facility is secured for long-term use.
The PSLC leadership team is actively engaging with local and national government representatives to explore funding options to support the repair of the roof. The full cost of the required works is still being determined.
Impact on Staff and Community
The closure of the pool has had an impact on our pool team, and unfortunately roles have been affected as a result. Nearly 50% of the PSLC team have been affected, reflecting the scale of pool operations which typically run from 5am to 10pm daily.
This is a significant and unexpected impact on our colleagues within the PSLC team.
This has strengthened the determination across the club to complete the necessary works and reopen the pool as soon as possible, given the importance of the facility to both our staff and the wider community.
Memberships and Bookings
Members who hold pool-specific memberships, or who have activities booked in advance, will be contacted directly. The team will work through the refund process and provide options in relation to memberships, including transferring access to other PSLC facilities or placing memberships on pause.
We aim to contact all impacted members and visitors by the end of April. We will ensure that all members and visitors are treated fairly and appropriately during this period.
The Club Remains Open
We want to be absolutely clear that the remainder of Portmarnock Sports and Leisure Club remains fully open, safe to use, and operating business as usual.
Only the pool and sauna area are affected by this closure.
Facilities including the gym, fitness studios, sports hall, Southern Cross Bar, Après Coffee and all other areas continue to operate as normal. We will also be introducing additional activities and opportunities for members over the coming months.
Ongoing Updates
We will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.

We are working to gather the remaining information required, secure funding, and begin the necessary works as soon as possible.
Your continued support, including use of the wider PSLC facilities during this period, is greatly appreciated.
Kind regards
