Pool Update – October 7, 2026

The new pool roof is almost complete but due to some unexpected water ingress, the project has been delayed. Read the full update for more.

The new pool roof is almost complete which is fantastic progress and very exciting. All structural steelwork is in place, the final sections of the roof membrane are being fitted, and work on the lighting and final fixings is nearing completion.

In conjunction with the roof replacement project, we are completing a pool resurfacing project to upgrade our current tiles. The approach we took to this project was intended to quickly and efficiently provide a new resin style surface over our existing tiling which would allow for a new, smooth and long-lasting finish whilst also building on the durability of our existing tile work and getting our pool open as soon as possible.

During initial preparation work following the roof structure completion, contractors discovered unexpected water ingress around the pool deck and behind the pool tiles which has meant that we have now had to remove the existing tiles and apply our new surface directly to the pool base which will be a more reliable and safer solution given the condition of the tiles. Unfortunately this additional removal and prep work will add a couple of extra weeks to the overall project timeline but after weighing up the options this is the best solution that will ensure that when we reopen our pool it will stay open and become the long-lasting solution we require.

We are now expecting that the pool reopening date will be in mid-November, As the works progress, we will be able to provide a more specific re-opening date when we look forward to welcoming all our swimmers back and enjoying the pool for years to come.

Photos of the work so far are attached, and you can see the amazing progress made by our team and contractors on site

Fundraising update

On 25 September, Joe Caulfield, Aoife Gibbons, Emily Grimes, Julie Carbery, Aoife Crowe, John Halpenny, Dermot Kelly and Helen Vaughan each completed the full 9 km open-water swim from Lambay Island to Low Rock. This was not a relay. Every swimmer completed the entire distance.

The Lane Swimmers’ Lambay Challenge has now raised more than €28,000 for the PSLC Fundraiser.

A sincere thank you to everyone who took part, including all those who made a substantial contribution to organising the event and ensuring the swimmers remained safe and on target throughout the challenge.

Special thanks to Portmarnock Triathlon Club, which supported the challenge in person and also donated an incredible €4,470 to the fundraiser.

You can read much more about the challenge and see all the photographs and videos of the swimmers:

Your support

Thanks to this remarkable fundraising effort and the donations received from members and the local community, the shortfall has reduced to €210,000. While this remains a substantial amount to raise, we have many initiatives underway to reduce the gap and we’ll keep you updated via email, our social media channels (Instagram and Facebook) and our website news centre. We will continue to ask for your support in spreading the word to help improve awareness of our cause. As a reminder, the PSLC is a not-for-profit club and we rely on memberships, grants, donations and official funding sources to maintain and improve our facility.

Most importantly, please continue visiting and enjoying the PSLC.

The Southern Cross Bar & Restaurant now offers an expanded food menu, including sides, salads, main courses and sandwiches alongside its ever-popular burgers plus a revamped drinks menu. The space itself is also being updated and remember, we have 8 big screens for live Premier League, Golf, Formula 1 and all the big national and international sports occasions.

Après Coffee House has launched its seasonal autumn menu, while Martello Fitness will launch Training Lab next month alongside new classes and more opportunities to support your health and wellbeing.

Padel @ The PSLC is a huge hit and don’t forget, members have a 14-day advanced booking window, so you have the best chance to book your preferred times for your group.

Every visit helps support the club and its future.

Kind regards
