We are a group of around 40 swimmers who are desperately missing our regular lane swims in the PSLC.
So desperate, in fact that eight of us have decided to take on a huge challenge to help raise funds. We are Joe Caulfield, Julie Carbery, Aoife Crowe, Aoife Gibbons, Emily Grimes, John Halpenny, Dermot Kelly and Helen Vaughan.
Each of us are planning to swim from Lambay Island to Low Rock Malahide – approx 8kms.
And the rest of the group aren’t getting away with it! Once the PSLC reopens, they’ll be taking on a 5km pool challenge to add to the fundraising efforts.
We have been swimming as a group in the PSLC for about 15 years, and we see first hand just how important the pool is to the Portmarnock Community and beyond.
It benefits many generations of people, from the Aqua fit ladies and school kids, to the tri and swimming club and all the regulars, where swimming is simply part of their daily routine.
We all know swimming is a lifeskill, but for many in our community, the pool is also a lifeline.
It’s a place for exercise, friendship and routine, (and sometimes we just swim so we can have the coffee and chats afterwards!)
